SMSTEAYUDA is a natural disasters alert and notification system for communities that are predisposed to natural disasters. This SMS alerting system is offered free to the Mexican public and offers three types of notifications when a natural disaster is approaching a member’s area. Preventative Alerts contain tips and time-alert notifications on approaching disasters. Emergency Alerts notify members upon a real emergency event and After Event Alerts update members on the status of the emergency and other pertinent information for members of a community dealing with a natural disaster. The SMS messaging system is meant to reduce vulnerability to areas where natural disasters commonly occur and to provide information regarding the event before, during and after it has occurred. This technology strengthens a communities reaction time and knowledge of dangers that could potentially be disastrous.
Geoanalitica and yalla ya! have provided this technology to assist the public on emergency situations. These alerts and informational messages are also provided for government and rescue organizations in order to inform and facilitate help to areas in need, at no cost.
